Planet K in court this month
The Trading Post mural and Planet K's potential opening on Highway 71 are literally on trial at Bee Cave Municipal Court on October 20th.
Despite protestations that the mural is not a sign, the trial on the criminal charge of violating City Ordinances continues. Parallel actions are still in progress at Travis Country Court placing a pall of legal complexity over the opening of the adult store on which no work has been completed in months.

2011-10-08 08:36:18 | Joe Coleman - tts a ShameIt's really a shame when a business attempts to come into a community, is willing to make an investment in their storefront, and instead they get virtually run out of town on a rail (if we had a rail). Sigh. Biggotness and close-mindedness DO permeate Austin. Even God's country is not impervious to those who want to silence the speech of others, simply because they are "different" or "unconforming." Is there any wonder that we have a bullying problem in our schools that drives students to commit suicide?

2011-10-08 13:19:02 | Lisa - Bravo for enforcing the rights of the majority! When we were house shopping 4 years ago- almost to the day, we fell in love with the Bee Cave for many reasons. This include schools, shopping, beauty. I also fell for the people- family friendly, goal oriented, and VALUES. I understand free speech, but what about my rights, about the rights of the majority of the people who live in Bee Cave who want to live in a community free of these types of influences. Bravo to the leaders and lawmakers for representing and protecting the community!

2011-10-14 17:30:01 | AnonymousThere have been quite a few businesses in the Bee Cave/Lakeway area over the past few years which haven't been successful, and have closed. Those businesses included family restaurants and upscale boutiques. The residents in the area spoke with their wallets. We should give the owner of Planet K the same courtesy, and if you don't like their products, don't shop there.

2011-10-20 08:57:53 | Disappointed.I grew up in the Lakeway area and am disappointed to see that the "majority" has become a group of closed-minded people afraid of change who hide behind "values" while judging others. You are teaching your children intolerance and hate rather than instilling in them the want to do good by you and the power to make their own choices.
There are a number of other Planet K stores around Austin. If your child wishes to enter one and has the means to get there, they will go. Trying so hard to keep this evil organization away from them only makes Planet K more appealing.
I guarantee you there are people in the Lakeway/Bee Cave/ Spicewood area who do patronize stores like Planet K - and often. If you think every resident out here is a saint, you're living in a fantasy world. I don't smoke (cigarettes or otherwise) and I can't remember the last time I walked into an "adult store" (it's a head shop, guys.) but the idea that this shop is "criminal" in the Bee Cave area but okay in all its other locations is ridiculous and it offends me.
No one is asking you to shop at Planet K. Just to open your minds.
