Covert issue to drive Bee Cave annexation push?
At least one Bee Cave City Council member is in favor of widespread annexation of all undeveloped property in the City's ETJ.
Council Member Zelda Auslander went on the record on a local newspaper site in the last few days saying "The best and only legal way for Bee Cave to protect itself and enforce ordinances is to pursue Home Rule and annex all undeveloped property in our ETJ...I am committed to pursuing this course. But keep in mind, there will always be adjacent properties just beyond our limits."
Long time local resident Carolyn Crumley Grumbles responded to a post last week about the annexation issue on BeeCaveBee.com on FaceBook; "What about us who originated for generations from here? We own a ranch, are good stewards of our land and water and have been for over 6 generations, not bothering anyone. Now, you are suggesting we be annexed? Yes, not by our choice, but we are in the City ETJ. I find this quite disturbing."
Bee Cave's ETJs extend along 71, Hamilton Pool Road and up 620 to the Lakeway City Line. See the map HERE.

2013-01-07 14:43:45 | Paul Kline - Home Rule is coming...just a question of whenBee Cave will continue to grow with various new housing developments in the plan. So, the question is not if Bee Cave will pursue Home Rule but when. There is no advantage to delaying such a move and on the contrary there is good reason to do it now. The ability to annex land into the city does not mean every piece of private property will be moved into the city. However, it does mean that commercial property will have to abide by city zoning ordinances. If the plot of land proposed for the Covert dealership was in city limits, there would be no controversy as there would be no dealership. The City Council is there to help the residents, not randomly grab land. But in this particular case, annexing this land in the ETJ would do a huge service to Bee Cave residents. We need to move to Home Rule. I've heard it can take two years but like all government work, things don't HAVE to move that slowly. We need to cut the red tape and move this along now. Again, it will happen...if we wait, we get a car dealership grandfathered into the city limits. That helps no one.
