Local children in grades 3 through 8 took STAAR exams for the first time this year. Eanes and Lake Travis tdid well. Eanes had  94 to 99 percent passing rates in the five end-of-course exams tested and Lake Travis had 85 to 97 percent. Austin ISD ranged from 54 percent to 84.

Lake Travis ISD trustees approved increasing average teacher salary and all other pay grades by 2.5 percent for the 2012-13 year last week. The 2.5 percent raises will cost and contrubute to a budget deficit of more than $2.4 million for the year.

The salary for first-time teachers with a bachelor’s degree will be $41,534 and teachers with a master’s degree will earn $42,764.

Lake Travis Independent School District (LTISD) Superintendent Dr. Brad Lancaster announced this week that Bee Cave Elementary School first-grade teacher Allison Gristy and Lake Travis Middle School social studies teacher Sheri Hanslik have been selected as the 2011-2012 District Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year, respectively.
