LTISD awards contract for new Middle School
This week saw the announcement of one of the major steps in the LTISD expansion funded by the recent $158MM bond.
The release states" Lake Travis Independent School District trustees have awarded a contract in the amount of $42,144,912 to Texas?based Bartlett Cocke General Contractors for the construction of the new Lake Travis Middle School. The $53.7 million project is part of the school bond approved by voters in November 2011
“The proposal submitted by Bartlett Cocke offers the best value to the district based upon the published selection criteria and ranking evaluation,” said Jim Ratcliff, LTISD Senior Director for Facilities and Construction. “Bartlett Cocke’s initial proposal exceeded the project’s original budget by $933,388 but was value?engineered back to the project’s original budget.” In addition, several items have been added into the overall scope of work including two additional drive lanes and sidewalks along the access drives to the school; a rainwater and condensate collection system; the addition of terrazzo flooring at the main public areas; the addition of site lighting along the access drives to the school; and the addition of a lightning early warning system at the athletic fields.
In November 2011, LTISD trustees selected Fields and Associates Architects to design the new school which will be located on Bee Creek Road just off Highway 71. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2013.
Additionally, once the new Lake Travis Middle School opens in the fall of 2014, expansion of Lake Travis High School into the current Lake Travis Middle School site at Ranch Road 620 and Cavalier Drive will begin.
The $158.5 million bond—the District’s largest issue to date—also includes construction of Elementary School No. 6; expansion of Hudson Bend Middle School to 1,200 students; expansion of Lake Travis High School into the current Lake Travis Middle School campus; upgrades for existing facilities; and improvements district?wide. Additionally, comprising the package is the purchase of instructional resources and materials, including technology."
