Lakeway Regional Medical Center (LRMC) has a new MRI machine - with the largest opening in the area.

LRMC features the Optima* MR450w 1.5T with GEM Suite coil technology. This advanced system from GE Healthcare is designed to help maximize comfort for patients undergoing MRI exams. Some of the features include a 70 cm wide bore allowing ample space for patients to feel unencumbered instead of the conventional 60 cm MRI.

There is also a table surface with varying cushion densities that is designed to alleviate pressure points. The length of the scanner is also shortened so that most exams can be accomplished with the patients head out of the scanner, or positioned at the opening, allowing any claustrophobic patient to feel comfortable and relaxed. Many patients who have required sedation in the past are now able to complete their MRI scans without any type of medication.
