The report from Bee Cave PD:

"On July 7th, 2018, at approximately 1533 hours, Officers of the Bee Cave Police Department responded to a Major Collision at 12000 HWY 71 West in Bee Cave, Texas.

Travis County Sheriff’s Office units and Lake Travis Fire Rescue were already on scene when they arrived. Officer observed a Gold Ford Ranger with two occupants who were pinned in the severely damaged vehicle. Both the driver and occupant of that vehicle appeared severely injured as Lake Travis Fire Rescue worked rapidly to extract them to treat them for their injuries. The other vehicle, a Gray GMC Pickup had a sole occupant who Officers observed to be standing outside the vehicle with minor wounds to his arms. Witnesses reported to the responding Officers that the gray GMC was traveling westbound on HWY 71 West and was attempting to turn left onto Spanish Oaks drive as the eastbound traffic’s light was turning red (STOP). Witness stated that all the eastbound vehicles came to a stop when the gold Ford Ranger traveling eastbound in the inside lane could be heard accelerating to drive through the intersection seconds after the light had changed to red (stop). Witnesses stated that the gold Ford Ranger struck the gray GMC pickup as it was turning left into Spanish Oaks. A formal collision investigation is currently underway, but preliminary findings suggest excessive speed and disregarding an official traffic control device were major contributors to this incident.

Sadly, the driver of the gold Ford Ranger, Dale Ford, age 50 yrs old, was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The passenger of the gold Ford Ranger, James Ford, age 21 years old, was taken to St. Davids South Austin Hospital and treated for his injuries. At the time of this release, his condition is stable.

The driver of the gray GMC pickup, 60 years old,  was evaluated by medical staff on scene and released to his residence after refusing EMS transport."
