Copter rescue
On Mondey the 24th the Bee Cave Police Department assisted Lake Travis Fire Rescue #603 rescue a local man who had fallen approximately 50 feet down a cliff while hiking in Bee Cave. The man, whose name will not be released, was in stable condition when Care Flight medical personnel transported him by helicopter to UMC Brackenridge.
This type of accident is very rare in Bee Cave, but according to the Mountaineering Accident Statistical Table (2007), this type of hiking/climbing accident is the most common around the world.
PLEASE remember these top 5 safety tips when hiking/climbing:
1. Go with a friend, preferably a seasoned climber
2. Carry a cell phone
3. Use a safety rope and harness when descending a steep hill or cliff
4. Never exceed your own physical abilities
5. Always carry water
