Councilman Kline in attendance issues - UPDATED
Newly elected Bee Cave City Councilman Paul Kline could be "out of compliance" with the rules for Council membership as soon as the next Council meeting on June 25th.
Since the May election Kline has not attended any Council meetings - missing two regular slots (including his inauguration and swearing in) and two special meetings. The "rules" state that three consecutive unexcused absences can cause forfeiture and would trigger a special election for his seat in November. Special meetings do not count so his attendance at the June 25th meeting becomes the key issue.
Requests by e-mail for an update on the future impact of his work commitments from Kline met with a "no comment". He has however commented on a lenthy thread on our Facebook page (HERE) as follows: "Thank you, Stephen England, for your post. My position is and will continue to be to not comment on the BeeCaveBee. I would imagine there will be more than a few such posts over the next two years and if I respond now, it sets a precedent. Rather than address anything in this post, or the article on the website, I would welcome anyone with a question to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. City Manager Frank Salvato tells me "In the past, the City Council has considered “out of town on business” as excused. This Council has not addressed the issue." This indicates the Council has considerable latitude here, but rumor has it that they are expected to address the issue soon.
