LT Library July
This update from LT Community Library for July:
Lake Travis Community Library’s Summer Reading Program is in full swing and there are plenty of things to do at the library! Do you enjoy art, want to plan for retirement, or have questions about how to take care of your lawn? Is indie music your passion? Do you want to laugh and appreciate spontaneous fun at an improv show? Or, are you are fascinated by dinosaurs? Read below to learn more about these events!
- Theresa Martin will exhibit watercolor paintings in the library meeting room in the month of July. Theresa is attracted to “the vibrant colors and jewel tones that can be achieved by making use of the transparent nature of the medium and the serendipity that can occur when water and colors marry on the paper.” All are invited to attend a reception with the artist on Friday, July 5th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and stop by the library anytime to view the artwork.
- Are you confused or need help understanding the place social security will play in your retirement? Get the facts and information on how to make the right decisions about your social security benefits on Thursday, July 11th at 6 p.m. Learn what factors will affect your social security; how much you can expect to receive; how to determine when is the right time to take social security; how to maximize your benefits; and the impact of inflation over the long-term. Presented by Steven Conte, President of the Austin Chapter of the Society for Financial Awareness.
- See the Que Pastas Kindie Musicians on Friday, July 12th at 4 p.m. Some say The Que Pastas are people from another planet. That planet, which may or may not have had oceans of cheese sauce and beaches of macaroni noodles, might have sent The Que Pasta family to earth to entertain kids of all ages with quirky, original music. Others claim The Que Pastas is the brainchild of Gene Davis, a young alt-country musician who found a surprise calling doing kindie music. One thing that everyone can agree on - The Que Pastas are a funny and interactive family friendly band that serves up their music with a generous helping of fun sauce.
- Join us for a performance of the Flying Theater Machine, a special improv group for kids, on Friday, July 19th at 2 p.m. Flying Theater Machine is the only kid-oriented improv in Austin. The audience will help with suggestions and sound effects, and a few lucky kids will even get to join the show!
- Do you have questions about how to best care for your lawn? Visit the library on Wednesday, July 24th at 3:30 p.m. for a presentation by Sean Bush, Regional Lawn Care Manager for ABC Home & Commercial Services. He can answer all your questions!
-
Do you like dinosaurs? Don’t miss Dinosaur George on Thursday, July 25th at 11 a.m. “Dinosaur George” Blasing is a self-taught paleontologist and animal behaviorist with more than 35 years of study and research. Come learn about dinosaurs on July 25th!
In addition to these events, the library will hold regular Library Camps for three different ages: Kindergarten and First Graders on Mondays at 2pm; Second and Third Graders on Mondays at 2pm; and Fourth Grade and up on Tuesdays at 2pm. At Library Camp, activities will vary every week and include science experiments, book clubs, writing exercises, crafts, cooking, reader’s theater, and more. Also, join us for free family movies and popcorn on Thursdays at 3 p.m.!
Please contact the library at (512) 263-2885 or see www.laketravislibrary.org for details and to view the complete Summer Reading Program calendar. All library events are free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
