LTYA funding questions continue - corrected
The mystery surrounding how the two LTYA Fields will be funded and managed continues. The latest is contained in Lakeway Mayor Joe Bain's personal blog.
"I met with Gerald Daugherty Thursday along with the County Attorney and City Attorney and we discussed necessary agreements needed for the County to start planning for the LTYA Sports Park. Everything went well and we should have a draft agreement in the next week or two. It will be good to get this project moving along in the right direction."
Witht the sale of the first field having been cancelled, the mystery remains around which combination of money from the cities of Lakeway and Bee Cave, Travis County and the LTYA itself will fund both facilities.
Lakeway purchased the second field but will be looking to Bee Cave to "fund an appropriate share of the project". The County has agreed to fund the planning stage. A request for a detailed update from Mayor Bain received this response:
"We are working with County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty to pen an agreement between the City and County to protect both of our interests. That will move funding forward on design and engineering for the site with monies the County has already identified. There is a proposed county bond election next November that could include funding for construction on the project. We hope to work with Bee Cave so they will be able and willing to fund an appropriate share of the project. I expect construction will take about a year after it is funded. I look forward to moving this along to support the youth in the area, it is long overdue."
