Seuss on the loose at BC library
Bee Cave Public Library is preparing once again to celebrate the joy of reading with its annual celebration of all things Seuss.
On Saturday, March 5, the library will celebrate the beloved author’s 112th birthday with its 11th annual “Seuss on the Loose” Family Fun Day. This year’s party features a One Fish, Two Fish theme, and begins at 2 p.m. with free (temporary) Seuss tattoos, stories, games, and crafts. At three o’clock, Bee Cave Mayor Caroline Murphy will lead everyone in reciting the Readers’ Oath, a Seuss-sounding promise to read every day. The climax of the afternoon is a rollicking concert by perennial favorite, award-winning children’s entertainer Joe McDermott.
“Our annual program is part of the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” campaign designed to build a nation of readers,” explained Library Director Barbara Hathaway. “Everyone loves the sing-song rhymes and wacky creatures of Dr. Seuss, and we all have our favorite Seuss story. We love to see the whole family turn out for this event—it sets a great example for kids to see their parents, grandparents, and even our elected officials all celebrating the fun of books and language.”
The event is free and open to the public. The activities run from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, followed by the concert. Singer-songwriter Joe McDermott will sell and sign his music CDs after the concert. Parking is available in lots and parking garages throughout the Hill Country Galleria. For more information, please contact the library at 512.767.6620.
LIBRARY HOURS: Bee Cave Public Library is open Tuesday-Thursday 10 am to 7 pm, and Friday-Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. The library is closed on Sunday and Monday. For more information, visit the library website at http://www.beecavetexas.gov or call 512-767-6620.
