After completing an exhaustive and highly-competitive interview process, Lake Travis ISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Lancaster has selected Gordon M. Butler, II to serve as the new principal of Lake Travis High School, effective July 1.

“Selecting the right person to lead Lake Travis High School was a critical decision,” Dr. Lancaster said.  “I want to thank the members of the interview committee for their outstanding help throughout this process.  Committee members included Lake Travis High School teachers Ashley Bernard and Lucy Metz, PTO President Babita Deitrich, Assistant Athletic Director Brandy Belk, Lake Travis Middle School Principal Jodie Villemaire, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Janis Jordan, Assistant Superintendent Holly Morris-Kuentz, and Deputy Superintendent Mary Patin.  We received 89 applications for this position, and 12 candidates were interviewed. The committee unanimously recommended Mr. Butler and two other finalists to me. My interview with Mr. Butler, coupled with his references, only confirmed the committee’s endorsement.”

Mr. Butler possesses 15 years of experience in public education.  He began his career as a fifth- and sixth-grade language arts and social studies teacher in the Dallas Independent School District. After serving a year in East Boston, Massachusetts as a sixth- and eighth-grade social studies teacher, Mr. Butler returned to Texas where he served as a language arts and World Geography teacher at Walnut Grove Middle School in the Midlothian school district. He would later serve as the school’s assistant principal.  In 2012, Mr. Butler joined the McKinney Independent School District, serving as assistant principal at McKinney High School, then as Director of Program Evaluation.  Presently, he is the principal of McKinney High School serving a population of 2,700 students and a staff of 235, similar in size to Lake Travis High School.

A native of Fort Dix, New Jersey, Mr. Butler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Public Relations from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M Commerce.  He and his wife Kati have two children, Hannah and David.

“As I have stated before, Lake Travis High School is recognized across Texas and the nation for its high academic achievement and remarkable extracurricular programs,” Dr. Lancaster added. “Our stellar reputation is directly attributed to our highly-qualified staff, talented students, and unparalleled parental and community support.  I firmly believe Mr. Butler is the perfect choice to lead Lake Travis High School to even greater heights.”

District and school officials will arrange a meet-and-greet between Mr. Butler and the Lake Travis community in the near future.
