Area Sales Tax income on the move
The numbers are in and the news looks better for Lakeway than Bee Cave in June.
There have been two significant changes in the retail scene in our area and we can now see some significant impact on the sales tax collection numbers - obtained from the Texas Comptroller web site and showing gross recipts by the state.
Firstly, the HEB in Lakeway has been open since October 2015 so is no longer impacting year on year numbers. Secondly, the Oaks development next to HEB continues to fill up while the Hill Country Galleria has had some significant losses of teneant and has several key spots still open.
But Bee Cave does have three major retail areas - HCG, The Shops at the Galleria and the Target/Home Depot combo on Ladera Blvd. So Bee Cave numbers are 2.5 times the size of Lakeway but showing a much lower monthly growth rate and a slower year to date growth rate too. This is crucial for Bee Cave where their property tax rate is just 2 cents per $100 versus 17.4 cents in Lakeway.
