Variance prevents 100 more Cielo/Madrone apartments on 620

At their June 25th meeting Bee Cave City Council granted a water retention variance for Madrone Apartments.  Faced with the option to not grant the variance and see the developer build up to 100 more apartment units to justify the cost of the required facility and being told by a representative from Alta Vista that they had come to an agreement with Madrone over the retention of trees and that they were comfortable with the request, Council voted to grant the variance.  This Cielo development is opposite the entrance to Falconhead and remains controversial.

Locals set new world record

Live Oak Golf Club professionals Jennifer MacCurrach, Bryan Benner, Aaron Chilek and Mike Sizemore broke the World Record for “Most Golf Holes Played by a Foursome in 24 Hours in a Cart.” by nine holes on July 1st - completing 243 holes. First Tee Of Greater Austin benefited by $23,500 in sponsorship as the group played from 6am until just after midnight.

Bee Cave Library to grow, take over more of City Hall?

The City of Bee Cave last week finished gathering RFQs for a project to expand the City Library and maybe even refurbish City Hall.

Hazmat on 620

Just before lunch on Saturday June 29th RR 620 is down to one lane due to a Hazmat incident outside The Grove Restaurant.  Believed to be caused by a Muriatic Acid spill, suited Firefighters and multiple emergency vehicles have been deployed. Traffic is backed up severly in both directions. Latest news suggests it's a 50% Hydrogen Peroxide leak from the  system at the Grove that handles grease production. No injuries are reported and the Hazmat crew on scene is wrapping up as of 12:20 pm.

Indepence Day Festival at HCG

Saturday June 29th sees the HCG's Independence Day festival - the successor to the LTCC's old Springfest - in its second year. The event runs from 11 through 9 ending with a fireworks display and admission is free.

 

The day includes over 120 artisans exhibiting (it's run by the same folks as the Pecan Street festivals downtown) and live music including White Ghost Shivers, Guy Forsythe and Band of Heathens as well as food trucks and kid's entertainment. Full info HERE
